The Broken Arm

Now I don't usually post about my kids - but this is a doozy so I just have to post about it!!
THE worst day of 2013 easily .. probably the worst day of all of my little man's short 4 years really .. happened on a Monday evening!
The day he broke his arm!
After a day at preschool the kids were mucking around playing this and that while waiting for dinner as I reclined in bed, recuperating after getting a tummy bug the evening before/that morning. I heard a crash crash crash down the stairs and rushed to see my just-4yr-old boy at the bottom in a pile. After picking him up and asking him where it hurt I looked down to see his arm .. and FREAKED OUT because it was bending where it shouldn't!!!! I remember thinking to myself that I needed to try and be calm and relaxed because if I freaked out then he would too, but I just couldn't help but squeal because it was SO GROSS!!!!
After grabbing him and bundling all the kids into the car as fast as possible I made the mad dash to the hospital - a 40min drive away from our house - stopping for a second to pick up hubby who was on the way home from work.
Here's some pics to show how the wonderful (not) day progressed!

We have some horrid steps at our house. I've put up a pic on them and a pic of the barrier we have at the top of them to stop littlies tumbling down them. This is partially to show you where he fell, and partially so that if you are squeemish you won't see the picture of his arm that bends where it shouldn't!

WARNING: IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE A BROKEN ARM DON'T SCROLL DOWN!

Here's the culprit .. he tripped nearly right at the top!

This was after being drugged up:

Waiting to get xrays done:

The next day all fixed up in a split cast that will allow for swelling (he'll get a proper one in a week or two):

The view from our hospital .. it's pretty nice actually! (the view that is, the hospital is ... well ... not the cleanest/nicest but hey, at least we HAVE one - I'm sure grateful for it!!)

I stayed overnight with him (in a horrible uncomfortable bed!)

The rigmarole of having to bathe with a cast on - he thought it was hilarious!

I hope none of you have to go through that! It sure made me grateful to be in a country where there is ready access to medical help - I don't know how I would have coped had there not be help available!!

A Blissful Summer Evening

A blissful summer evening consists of this:

Add: quietness (aka kids asleep in bed), husband, and a good movie.

Husband's choice of food delicacy:

My choice of food delicacy:

If you live in Whangarei you should DEFINITELY try the Longview Estate White Diamond.
It is absolutely amazing and tastes like they've got some fresh green grapes and squeezed them into the bottle. Seriously good! I even had a request from the sis-in-law to post some over to Aussie because she loves it so much. Of course we had to go get ourselves some too ;-) We bought enough that hubby managed to talk her into giving us a free bottle of their Chardonnay. I'm not a huge fan of Chardonnay but theirs was DIVINE!! Go try some today! (the Chardonnay I think is cheaper than the White Diamond, so grab a bottle of both ;-)

The hilarity of foreign english

Birthday $ came in the post from a lovely aunty for the small boy.
We went on a shopping trip to The Warehouse and after going through a lot of different options to make sure that this is what he REALLY REALLY wanted, he chose a till machine with a little shopping basket of items. Hilarious, but cute - the little boy loves to pretend to play shop and loves cooking too .. maybe a future shop attendant/shop owner/chef/who knows what!
Anyway, after closer inspection of aforementioned product I noticed some hilarious spelling errors on the shopping items ..

Anyone for Junmy Fruit Juice .. mmmm Junmy, my favourite it's so yummy yunmy

How about some:
MIKE Pure Mike hahahahahaha Mmmm care for some cow's milk mike anyone?!

Book Box

A friend of mine mentioned on her FB page the other day that there were empty beer crates going for $2 at a local bottle shop.
Of course I immediately went on Pintrest to see what cool ideas there were on there for using aforementioned goods.
I have a couple of cardboard boxes upstairs for storing the little one's books in (the main bookcase is downstairs) so they can access them easily.
These now look ragged and ugly and I thought what better use for the beer crates than turning them into book boxes!
After sourcing them this is what I came up with:

So much prettier! I used some old tester pots for the paint - super cheap - and I left the inside plain for 2 reasons,
a) because I like the colour!
b) because I thought the paint may be a little sticky and stick to the books

Now on to making the little boy's box :-)
As Miranda's mother would say 'such fun' (if you watch Miranda you'll get that joke! If you don't watch it .. YOU SHOULD! It's HILARIOUS!!)

Waitangi Day Cricket

A tad belated but here's a post on Waitangi Day.

For those of you who don't know what Waitangi Day is (aka anyone not in NZ!) you can check out what it's about here. Basically to me it means a day of no work and enjoying the sun!

Now I am NOT a fan of cricket. It goes on and on and on and on and when you think it's finally over, you realise that the other team still has to bat .. boring!! However, I may be converted to watching 20/20 cricket. Nice and short and, on Waitangi Day anyway, it was actually exciting.
I know. Cricket? Exciting? Yes. It actually was surprisingly haha!
Here's a some pics to prove it:

This guy had the hugest lens ever to catch the action:

This beer was about the most delicious I've ever had. Not because of the taste, more because for the same price of this ONE beer, my hubby can make about FOURTEEN (nicer tasting) home brews!!
(but we got given our cricket entry tickets for free by some nice person so we had some spare $ yay!)

The crew including the lovely Jax and her family from Jacksta B who suggested the day spent out watching the cricket  - great idea!!

Spiderman was there, signing autographs for kids on their cricket bats. hahaha they were stoked!

And then it was nearly over and it got exciting .. 2 runs to win, 2 balls remaining!

Then it got even MORE exciting .. 1 run to win, one ball remaining!

And then .. WE WON! YAY!!

'Twas a lovely day out with good company, good food (no branded food allowed so I bought a Domino's pizza and glad wrapped the pieces hehe YUM), and a good game.
Happy Waitangi Day New Zealand!

My View...

This was my view the other day .. I've got a few more letters done now but it sure takes time! Fun though and hopefully it will look FABULOUS as the sign for our new property when it's done  :-)
